Gospel Conversations Are Spirit-Led

Preacher: Dr Denny Lie

Series: Gospel Conversations

Key Passage: Acts 8:26-40

Gathering: 11:30am Service

Sermon Divisions:

  • When we ask for the presence of and rely on the Holy Spirit in our gospel conversations, the Spirit may lead us to

    • meet and share the gospel with (talk to) an unexpected person(s); and

    • go to unexpected places.

  • All these will coalesce, work together in perfect harmony to lead to unexpected things and outcomes.

  • In gospel conversations, the persons we meet, the places we go, the things that happen and the outcomes may be unexpected to us. But they are all according to God’s plan --- all of them are divinely orchestrated.

  • The Holy Spirit is given to all who have faith in Jesus. We should treat every opportunity---wherever we are and whomever we meet---as a Spirit-led encounter.

  • We are called to be obedient, faithful, sensitive, and responsive to the Holy Spirit’s calling, ready to engage in conversations about Jesus with whomever the Spirit directs us to, even in the most unexpected places and with most unlikely/unexpected individuals.

  • Our gospel conversation could be a vessel for God’s grace to work on other peoples’ hearts, transforming their lives and expanding the kingdom of God.

Reflection Questions:

  • Are (were) you reluctant in striking up a gospel conversation with a non-believer friend or stranger (be it in a familiar or an unfamiliar place)? Why?

  • If your answer is “yes” or “somewhat” in the above question, what adjustments might you make to be open to the Spirit leading you (to unexpected people and places)?

  • What can we do as a church community to support our individual calling to share the gospel, to be the channel of God’s grace?
